How to easily set up your new Apple HomePod in your home

So, you"ve decided to jump the gun and get yourself one of those smart speakers that are all the rage right now?

To hell with privacy, let"s do it!

All right, if you are just now getting into this game, you will quickly learn that Apple, the tiach giant that usually usurps any industry it could get involved into, has just recently released its HomePod smart speaker that is putting emphasis on audio and music. With Siri on board and a slim list of other features, the HomePod is not as capable as other smart speakers like Google"s range of Home devices or Amazon"s Echo lineup, it"s a surprisingly good gadget that will certainly be a pleasant surprise to most audiophiles.

Okay, let"s say you"ve just got yourself a brand new HomePod and are itching to get it all hooked up and ready to rock your house, and that"s understandable. What we"d do here today is help you through the initial setup process, which is super-easy in itself but it doesn"t hurt to have a leg up, does it?

Make sure to update your iPhone or iPad to the iOS 11.2.5. It"s a requirement for the task since it"s the one that enables your device to recognize and communicate with the smart speaker.

Plug in your HomePod into the socket.

Now get your iPhone or iPad near the HomePod. A pop-up message should appear, informing you that a HomePod has been spotted nearby. Tap "Set up" to continue with the set-up process.

The next step of the setup wizard requires you to tell the HomePod what room it will mostly reside. Although you might think this step is necessary so that the gadget could subsequently adapt itself faster to the unique room acoustics and provide you with the best audio experience possible, you will be wrong. The HomePod does this automatically no matter what room it"s put in; this step simply helps the gadget better communicate with all the other connected gadgets in your smart home.

Next up, the HomePod will ask you if you want to enable Personal Requests. While turning these on sounds like a no-brainer (after all, it"s a smart speaker), we suggest you keep these off for now. Why? Well, at the moment the HomePod doesn"t recognize multiple users" voices and just about anyone that happens to be in its general vicinity could talk to Siri and get hold of sensitive private data as the speaker is linked to your Apple ID. This includes but is not limited to reminders, messages, appointments, and so on. Until Apple introduces multi-user voice recognition, you"re better off disabling this feature altogether.

Being a little more privacy-savvy today will certainly pay off tomorrow.

In this final and totally optional step, you will be prompted to train Siri by repeating a couple of questions. Once you"re done with this step, your spic-n-span HomePod is now primed up and ready to rock the house with your favorite Apple Music tunes.
